Ralph Robert Portzline, 85, died peacefully and surrounded by family on June 2, 2016. Born April 16, 1931, in Sunbury, Pa., the son of Walter F. and Minnie K. (Coryell) Portzline. A longtime resident of central Ohio, he retired in 2002 after working for the Franklin County Auditor's Office and, before that, as Village Administrator at First Community Village in Upper Arlington. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Walter Jr., Donnell, Jack, Charles and Patricia. He is survived by his children: Eric (Robyn) of San Jose, Calif.; Jennifer (Michael) of Upper Marlboro, Md.; Jeff (Bonnie) of Norfolk, Va.; and Aaron (Kate) of Granville, OH. He delighted in the presence of his granddaughters, Makayla and Grace. Through his warm, charitable heart, his ornery sense of humor, his passion for the arts, and a deep love for gathering family and friends around a hearty meal, Ralph touched many hearts and left many fond memories. A lifelong Christian in the Lutheran church, Ralph believed deeply that the Lord walked beside him throughout his life. Calling hours will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8, at Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 High St., Worthington, OH 43085. A celebratory memorial service will be held at Gethsemane Lutheran Church on Thursday, June 9, at 2 p.m. The Rev. June Wilkins will officiate. His ashes will be buried with family at Orchard Hills Cemetery and Memorial Park, Shamokin Dam, Pa. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 35 E. Stanton Ave., Columbus, OH, 43214, or Hospice of Central Ohio, 2269 Cherry Valley Rd., Newark, OH 43055. Please visit www.schoedinger.com to send condolences and share memories.
