Richard George Cheney

Rev. Richard George Cheney, age 90, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2016. A WWII Army Air Corps veteran, he served as pastor of Shoregate Methodist Church in, Willowick, Ohio; Oxford Methodist Church, Oxford, Ohio; and Union Avenue Methodist Church in Alliance, Ohio, and later as director of church-campus relations for the United Methodist Church in Ohio. He was a longtime volunteer at the James Cancer Hospital and the Ohio Historical Center, a master gardener and an avid biblical scholar. Richard is preceded in death by his sister, Betty Thalman. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 wonderful years, Gene H. Cheney; children, Carol (Robert Tenenbaum) Greentree, Susan (Michael) Vasquez, Richard (Cathy) Cheney Jr., John (Barbara) Cheney; grandchildren, Kate (Justin) Wise, Betty (Tony) Kelly, Charles (Kaylee) Greentree, Ben Vasquez, John Jr. (Tiffany Cerana) Cheney, Russ Cheney, Mike Cheney and Glenn Cheney. Contributions in Richard's honor may be made to the James Cancer Hospital, Ross Heart Hospital or to the charity of your choice.
