

Richard Curry Quinby, age 90, passed away Monday December 29, 2014. Born February 14, 1924 in Pittsburgh, PA, Richard was the son of Edward M. Quinby II and Henrietta Bowlin Quinby. He was a descendant of Ephraim Quinby, an early pioneer family and early settlers in Wooster, Ohio and donor of the original land for The College of Wooster.
He attended Wooster city schools and was a 1949 graduate of The College of Wooster majoring in Geology. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the artillery in France and Germany.
Richard was employed by Halliburton Oil Company and then spent 30 years with Shell Oil Company in sales and real estate development. After retirement from Shell, he worked for over 25 years with Ohio Equities in Commercial Real Estate in Columbus, Ohio.
Richard married Patricia Anne Miller of Wooster, OH in 1949. They lived in Wooster, Mansfield and Columbus where he raised his sons.
Richard was devoted to his wife Patricia for 65 years who recently passed away earlier in December. He was a proud father of his boys Richard Emerson Quinby of Wellesley, MA and William Parker Quinby of McLean, VA. He was an active member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Upper Arlington where he served as elder and deacon. He took great pride in his work, hometown of Wooster and Wooster College. He took great joy in his granddaughters, Katherine, Lee, Allyson and Jennifer and her brand new great grandchildren, Kendra Leigh Spencer and William Thomas Spencer IV.
Richard is survived by his sons, Richard and William, daughters-in-law, Shannon and Stephanie, grandchildren, Katherine Brinkley, Lee Quinby, Jennifer Quinby Spencer and Allyson Quinby, great grandchildren, Kendra and Will Spencer and nephew Edward M. Quinby IV of Florida who all will miss him deeply. He is preceded in death by his wife Patricia, brother Edward M. Quinby III, parents and brother and sister in law Mr. and Mrs. Parker C. Reed of Washington, DC. His good friends from his years at Shell Oil and Ohio Equities, Covenant Presbyterian Church, Prime Timers, Dividenders Investment Club and Poor's Pupils Investment Club will miss him dearly.
Funeral services will be at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 2070 Ridgecliff Road, Columbus, Ohio 43221 on Tuesday January 6th at 9:45 AM with a reception immediately following at the church. Rev. Tracy Keenan is officiating. A short service will take place at the Wooster Cemetery Chapel in Wooster, Ohio on Tuesday January 6th at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers family prefers memorial contributions be made to Myrtle's Retirement Home, 50 NW 184th Terrace, Miami, Fla. 33169, Care of Myrtle Stuckie and Edward Quinby.
