

Richard Granville Sharp, of Upper Arlington, passed away at age 85, on Monday, January 30, 2012 at Riverside Hospital. He was born on January 3, 1927 to the late Dr. Cyril and Clara Sharp in Rockford, Illinois. He was a graduate of Carthage College. He proudly served in the US Navy as an aviator from 1944-1946. Retired as Regional Sales Manager for AMP Inc. of Harrisburg, PA, he continued his career for 16 years as Executive Sales Consultant for Infiniti of Columbus. Dick was an avid student of European and Scandinavian history and spent many years documenting historical events as well as family heritage. He was very proud of a book he authored where he used actual family historical facts as the basis for the story in his book that took place in Europe in the early 1900s. He had a keen intellect and a sharp wit. He enjoyed meeting new people and discovering the details of their background and family histories. He was a true Bengals and Ohio State fan. He also enjoyed anything related to aviation. Dick was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved his family and who truly enjoyed family gatherings where he would always entertain with his sayings, historical facts, and his famous Scottish Blessing. He is preceded in death by his parents, infant brother James A.; sisters, Betty Kjellgren and Dorothy Espenscheid. Survived by loving wife of sixty-six years, JoAnn A. Sharp; brother, William H. Sharp of Cincinnati; children, Bonnie J. Sharp, and Linda E. Sharp of Columbus, OH, Debra K. (Jim) Dill of Dublin, OH, Jeffrey T. (Eleanor) Sharp of Henderson, NV; grandchildren, Katie (Trent) Elmquist of Delaware, OH, Andrew Dill, Joshua Dill, and Thomas Dill; great-grandchildren Evan and Libby Elmquist; many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Mid-Ohio, 1950 Arlingate Lane, Columbus, OH 43205 or charity of choice. A private memorial service will be held at the Upper Arlington Lutheran Church. Arrangements entrusted to Schoedinger Northwest Chapel.
