

Richard "Dick" L. Sheldon, age 81, of Dublin passed away on Thursday October 21 unexpectedly at home. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Phyllis, who he was able to share 48 wonderful years.
He was born in Fostoria, OH on May 21, 1929. After graduating from North High School, he entered the U.S. Navy and served until 1953. He then met and married his beautiful wife Phyllis. He attended The Ohio State University and was the manager of the Crystal Pool until beginning his 24 year career with Ohio Bell selling advertising for the Yellow Pages. He loved this job as it allowed him to meet many people who he built strong friendships with that spanned decades. Over those 40 years, he was also a basketball referee for the NBA/ABA and the Central Ohio Basketball Association. He retired from Ohio Bell in 1989 and began a post retirement career as the Starter at Muirfield Village Golf Club. He worked there almost 20 years and loved every thing about it. As Dick always said "I never had a job I didn't enjoy". He will be dearly missed by his loving family, sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Linda Sheldon of Grove City, OH and Dan and Litia Sheldon of Dublin, OH; grandchildren, Brittany, Blake, Sara, Nick; brother and sister-in-law Phil and Billie Wayt of Olympia, WA. A Memorial Service will be held 4:00 pm Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, where the family will receive friends from 2-4 pm; Father William L. Arnold officiating. Following the Service, “A Toast to a Life Well Lived” will be held at Mary Kelleys, 7148 Muirfield Drive, Dublin, Ohio 43017 from 6pm-9pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Dick Sheldon Caddy Scholarship Fund, c/o Muirfield Village Golf Club, 5750 Memorial Drive, Dublin, OH 43017.
