

Ricky "Rick" Dwain Hunter, 58, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on June 22, 2021, at Mount Carmel East Hospital. He was born on June 19, 1963, in Birmingham, Alabama, to Gussie Marie Hunter and the late Willie Gene Hunter. Rick was the third of five children. He graduated from Eastmoor High School in 1982. In 1986, Rick accepted Christ, and was baptized at Love Zion Baptist Church in Columbus, Ohio.
Rick met the love of his life, Vickie, while attending Shepherd Elementary School. Not only did Rick and Vickie become friends, but their brothers also formed a friendship that led to a lifelong brotherly bond. On September 13, 1986, Rick and Vickie were united in holy matrimony. Together, they raised two amazing children, Brandon and Britney. Rick was extremely devoted to his family, and he loved his grandchildren.
In 1990, Rick began working for Honda of America Manufacturing, Inc. He had a strong work ethic and worked various positions throughout his tenure. Rick retired after 30 years of service in August of 2020.
Rick was remarkably talented and a man of extraordinary character. His sense of humor was contagious to everyone he met. His love for sports cars, luxury cars, inventing, and fixing things became apparent at an early age. He was known for being a jack of all trades. Just to name a few of his self-taught skills, Rick was an architect, artist, carpenter, electrician, inventor, IT specialist, mechanic, and plumber. He loved his cars, gadgets, movie nights with his grandchildren, poker nights with his friends, traveling, and making Vickie smile. After retirement, he enjoyed having breakfast with friends at different restaurants around the city. Rick was always there to help relatives and friends with household projects or anything people needed.
Rick was preceded in death by his father, Willie Gene Hunter, and father-in-laws, Richard C. Tanner, and Irvin P. Hill. Rick is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 35 years, Vickie Hunter; son, Brandon Hunter; daughter, Britney (Sammy) Tonyemba; five grandchildren, Harlem Hunter, Noelani Evans, Jaden Tonyemba, Boston Bleu Hunter, and Hayven Tonyemba; godson, Noah Rizo; loving mother, Gussie Marie Hunter; sister, Maria Hunter; brothers, Jeffrey (Irene) Hunter, Terence (Karen) Hunter, and Cordell Hunter; mother-in-law, Carolyn E. Hill; sister-in-laws, Michelle Hill, and Stephanie Hill; brother-in-laws, Ron (Kim) Tanner, and Anthony Tanner; nieces, RoKia (JD) Weatherspoon, Diamond (Ashley) Tanner, Breanna (James) Poe, Cydnee Hunter, Ashira Tanner, Kaneesha Frazier, Ameia Hill, and Natalya Hunter; nephews, Adam Hunter-White, DayJuan Oswalt, Raymond Hill, and Ron Tanner II; and a host of other relatives and close friends.
