Rita Ann (Malamphy) Diehl, age 89, of Columbus, Ohio was born on December 11, 1928 in Camp Hill, PA. She passed away on July 16, 2018, at Riverside Methodist Hospital with her children by her side. Mrs. Diehl was the daughter of the late George and Aliene (Murray) Malamphy. She married Thomas Diehl, Sr. on August 6, 1949, in Hagerstown, MD, and were blessed with 8 children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas C. Diehl, Sr., her son, Stephen Diehl, and her daughter-in-law Carrie Beth Diehl. Mrs. Diehl is survived by her children Thomas, Jr. (Susan) Diehl of Dripping Springs, TX, David (Debbie) Diehl, and Susan Diehl of Columbus, OH, Jerry (Julie) Diehl, and Edward Diehl of Westerville, OH, Greg Diehl of Shelbyville, KY, and Patricia (Chris) O'Connor of Livonia, MI. Mrs. Diehl was blessed with 17 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren who all lovingly called her "Meemaw". Mrs. Diehl was employed and retired from North American Rockwell/Rockwell Intl., where she was an Aviation Illustrator. Upon Mr. and Mrs. Diehl's retirement, the couple spent many winters in their second home in Naples, FL. Mrs. Diehl was very witty, coming up with many funny one-liners that kept her family laughing. Even during her illness, she had a way of communicating love and laughter to those who visited her. She was a beautiful artist, loved garage sales, square dancing and being surrounded by her large family. She was an active member of the Catholic Church her entire life and a parishioner of St. Matthias Church in Columbus. She was a wonderful, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who put her family before herself. She is deeply loved and missed. Although a deep loss for all of us, we rejoice that she now has her reward in Heaven. The family wishes to express special thanks and heart-felt appreciation to our sister Sue for taking such loving care of our Mom for 14 years. A Memorial Service will be held at Schoedinger North Funeral Home at 5554 Karl Rd, Columbus, OH on Monday, July 23rd from 4-8 pm. There will be a Funeral Mass at St. Matthias Church, 1582 Ferris Rd, Columbus, OH on Tuesday, July 24th at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Ohio Health Foundation's Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the Schoedinger Funeral Home.
