Lit a candle in memory of Robbin Joe Kirkland

Robbin was my husband's fraternity brother and was like a brother to me.  We are so shocked to learn of his death, yet even today, we extend our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family.  He will always own a warm spot in our hearts.

Dear Ashley and family,
We wanted to tell you how very sorry we were to hear about the death of your father. We live just behind Robbin's house and have known him since 1986. We remember you as a very young child. You loved our little white dog and used to yell and "bark" back at him from your bedroom window. Your father was a very good neighbor - always ready to smile, wave, or chat over the fence. And we know that he adored you, Ashley. That was obvious from the things he said about you and by the fact that he refused to tear down your backyard swingset! He carefully mowed and trimmed the grass around it for years until he passed. We miss the vibrant bursts of color in his yard and on the house - we loved all the flowers and wreaths that he placed everywhere. They are painfully absent this spring. He would be glad to know that his beautiful rose bushes are in full bloom right now! We will hold dear these and many more memories of your father. We feel his presence every time we look across the fence line. I hope these past few months have eased your pain a little. It was a pleasure and an honor to have known your father. We will continue to miss him.

I met Mr. Kirkland through my son and discovered we also attended the same church. Mr Kirkland sure did love my cooking and I enjoyed sending a little extra thru Lamonte to him. He was a true friend to my son, my husband and myself. One Christmas he gave us a beautiful candle and everytime I look or touch it, it reminds me of how loving and beautiful his heart was towards others. I am truly going to miss seeing him laugh and smile. I constantly invited him for holiday meals, but he always said he was spending them with his Daughter. My love and prayers are with his family for the loss of a beautiful individual who shared the Love of God to all he touched. He ran the race and finished the course and can't you just hear the Father saying "Well done my Good and Faithful servant enter in the joy of the Lord". I first met Dr. Kirkland shortly after I became a residency director at Doctors Hospital. I was floundering as I had no skills that prepared me for the job. I started talking to Robbin on a fairly regular basis. Our conversations ranged from educational topics to sports, to life in general. He was always able to provide crucial, helpful insight on a variety of topics. I don't think he ever had a bad day. I know he always made my day better. He challenged me to become so much more than I would have become otherwise. Over the years I learned more from him than you could ever imagine. 
Because of is counsel and efforts I am a better residency director than I would have otherwise become. 
His legacy will be the direct and indirect impact he had on the education of literally hundreds of physicians. 
I have lost a friend and mentor. I express my condolences to the family. I can only imagine what you have lost.

Mr. Kirkland- I was expecting to see you at church this weekend but I guess you chose a much better church. It was a privilege to know you as a person and as a mentor. Thank you for leaving a positive impact in my life and for attending my baptism. Your presence was a treat :) And yes, I will remember to warm up my car 2 minutes before driving in cold weather. I will miss you but happy that we served the same God so I will surely see you in another life. My thoughts and prayers to the Kirkland Family.

I will surely miss my friend. He was kind, wise, and very funny. I wish I would have got to see and talk to him just one more time. He taught me so much and I will never forget him. I love you so much Mr. Kirkland and I know you are in a much better place now with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He spoke about his family all the time and I'm so sorry for your loss.

Summa Western Reserve Hospital made a donation of $100 to AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION INC.

Mr. Kirkland was an awesome friend and great mentor. I could talk to Mr. Kirkland about anything and he was always there to offer sound advice. There will never be another person like him. He always knew just what to say to bring a smile upon my face. I will miss you friend. Rest in peace!

Terry L. purchased a sympathy card for the family of Robbin Joe Kirkland.

I had the privilege of working with Robbin during the 90"s at Bank One. He shared the same birthday as me of August 29th. We would always call each other on that day to say Happy Birthday. On August 29th, 2012, I last spoke with him. He was in great spirits and was talking about how proud he was of his daughter Ashley and the successes she has had. I will truly miss talking to hiim for he was a class act and a man of character. May god bless him. He is at peace. I will celebrate his life and the positive influence he had on me.

I have known and worked with Robbin for a number of years thru the Orthopedic Residency Program Advisory Committee (ORPAC). It was a pleasure seeing him last Friday at our meeting and workshop for the residents. I was surprised to learn of his homegoing Saturday. Robbin was always passionate about education of the residents and faculty development for the docs. He was always able to motivate others to do their best and I am grateful to have known and worked with him on the ORPAC.. Our prayers  are with the family during this most difficult time!

St. John Medical Center purchased the A Quiet Remembrance for the family of Robbin Joe Kirkland.

Robbin was an inspiration.  He would always give me a pat on the back when I was feeling low and encourage me when I was feeling tired and unwilling to put any more effort into a project that I felt spent from.  He kept the moral highground and encouraged me to keep going, because "it was the right thing to do."  His presence will be missed, but his spirit, good humor and his heart will be with me forever.
