On the morning of February 11, 2022 Robert “Bob” Cunningham suddenly stepped from this life into the arms of our Lord. He is survived by his loving wife Elaine (Stefanek) Cunningham, his High School Sweetheart, with whom he enjoyed 66 wonderful years of marriage, son Dave (Kathleen), Grandson Gabe of Great Falls, Montana, daughter Laura Matthews (James), Granddaughters, Lyvia and Lyndi of Dublin Ohio, and many loving nephews, nieces and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, brother, and his beloved son Jeff.
Born July 24, 1934 in Barberton, Ohio, Bob grew up in Norton, went to Norton High School, and graduated in 1952. Football, high school athletics and his coaches played an important role in his life as a young man. He then attended and graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering and was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Bob served our country for four years in the United States Air Force and enjoyed a 30 career as an electrical engineer with Ohio Bell/AT&T.
Bob had a keen intellect and possessed an array of analytical, creative, artistic, and common-sense talents. He was known for his kindness, calmness, sense of humor, puns, limericks, and a relentlessly positive attitude. Bob’s glass wasn’t just always half full, it never ran dry. He had the ability to talk with anybody and never met a stranger that he didn’t like. He genuinely enjoyed learning about others and sharing himself with others too. Bob was a loving man. He was an all-around handy man and did most home improvement projects and vehicle maintenance himself.
Bob came from a musically talented family and music was a huge part of his life. Through decades of singing in high school and church choirs, special programs, special events and with barbershop quartet groups, his range was wide and he shared his talents with many.
Bob’s Christian faith was central to his being and continues to be so with his family. Throughout the years, he served on church councils, led youth groups, and participated in all aspects of the life of a church. Above all, he strove to lead a life in sync with the words of Jesus. Bob loved the Lord.
Bob was an outdoorsman and enjoyed just about every activity imaginable. If he was offered the chance to do something new that he was capable of doing, he happily joined in. He enjoyed numerous adventures with his three children as they grew up and instilled his love of adventure and the outdoors in them. Some of his favorite activities included camping, hunting, canoeing, fishing, skiing, and simply basking in the light and warmth of an open campfire. In many ways he remained young his entire life.
Bob loved his grandchildren and enjoyed doing adventurous, fun, activities and exploring with them. Time with Grandpa was always fun and he will be sorely missed but forever remembered.
Throughout his life Bob touched many people and enjoyed quality time with family and friends. He was deeply and powerfully loved by his family and close friends. We expect that there have been many joyful reunions in Heaven since he relocated there. While we have faith that we will be reunited in the next life, he will be terribly missed here in this life by his family, friends and all who knew and loved him.
Please join the Family for a celebration of Bob’s life on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at St. John Lutheran Church located at 6135 Rings Road, Dublin, Ohio.
