

Dr. Robert Duran, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at First Community Village. He was born on June 1, 1923 to Samuel and Fannie Duran in McAlister, OK. He was a graduate of McAlester High School and attended Westminster College prior to entering the U.S. Navy. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma Medical School in 1947 and was subsequently recalled into service by the U.S. Air Force, as a medical doctor. He took his surgical residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and specialty training in hand surgery in New York and San Francisco. He established his surgical practice in Columbus, Ohio in 1956, specializing in hand surgery. His was the first hand surgery practice in the Columbus, Ohio area. Robert was on the faculty at OSU Medical School. He was a member of the Hand Society, Columbus Rotary Club and long time member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Joanne Kreisle Duran; daughter Martha Duran (Buddy) Hennessey; sons David (Shelley) and Sam (Nancy) Duran; 6 grandchildren and 3 grandchildren-in-law; Roseanne (Matt), Jessica (Kerem), Dave, Jack (Christine), Sam and Joe; and 1 great grandson, Henry. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, May 15, 2011 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1581 Cambridge Blvd., Columbus, OH. Reverend Philip Brooks officiating. Family will receive friends immediately following the service. A private interment will be held at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, OH on Monday, May 16, 2011. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bob’s memory may be to Trinity United Methodist Church Mission Fund, 1581 Cambridge Blvd, Columbus, OH 43212.
