

Robert Foresman Gutches, age 88, was born at home in Grandview, on February 25, 1927, and passed on June 15, 2015. From the age of 9, he resided in Upper Arlington, until moving beside the Olentangy River in southern Delaware County in 1975. Preceded in death by his wife of 60 yrs, M. Angeline Millisor Gutches; parents: George F. and Jennie O'Brien Gutches; his siblings: Ruth Gutches, Jeanette (Frank) Dole, G.Wallace (Jean) Gutches, Ann (Prof. Chas. Bill) Smith; nephew, Will Donovan, brother-in-law, Pete Sohl. Bob spent early childhood summers at his family's Mount Air Pool and Golf, north of Worthington. He graduated from UAHS in 1945, where he was captain of the track team, and played on the basketball team. After graduation he served in The U S Navy at the Great Lakes Station; later graduating from O.S.U, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. Bob went to work for his father at Gutches Realtors inititally, and was in property management and commercial real estate (earning his CPM and a member of IREM). He was baptized and remained a life member at First Community Church. He was a member of Community Lodge # 684 F and AM; 32nd degree Scottish Rite and Aladdin Temple Shrine. He served on the Board of Godman Guild, and participated for years "on the coldest Saturday of each year" in Charity Newsies. Bob never knew a stranger, he maintained many close friendships from childhood, school, and OSU. He shared a love of gardening from his mother and sister, Ann; and spent countless hours in the greenhouse or garden. He played tennis in friends backyards, at Northam Park, and Cols. indoor clubs until into his 70's, and he shared his love and knowledge of big band music and jazz with all. A huge sports fan until recently, he attended OSU track meets; football games, and basketball games, which included traveling with Angie and friends in Bucks and Does while Fred Taylor coached. Survived by his daughters, their spouses and his grandsons: Lynn (Hank) Snowden; Jenny (Bill), Perry andTrey Wyatt. Nieces: Judy Needham; Karen (Bill) Donovan; Marcia (Rev. James) Cope; and Pam (Tom) Stewart. Nephew: Dr. Michael (Ixia) Sohl; Great Nieces and nephews: Mike (Rhonda) andTanner Needham; Jeff ( Jen) Grace and John Needham; Jennifer (Walter) Mary Katherine, Margaret, and Kathleen O'Donnell; Jill and Annie Franke and Ryan Dunn; Karen Cope (Marike Finley-DeMonchy); Leslie (Jules) Jack and Zoe Cope; Lisa Cope (Don Lee); Becca (Michael) Bailey and Rachael DuLaney; Jane (Tim) Teddy and Sammy Irwin; Betsy Stewart; Christopher Sohl; Amy Sohl. Sister-in-Law Nan Sohl Bradley. Also: loving companion of 4 years, Carol Stewart and her family. Memorial Service will be held at First Community Church, 1320 Cambridge Blvd. on Thursday, June 25 at 11:00 AM with Rev. James Long officiating. Immediately following the service, a Celebration of Bob's Life will continue at a reception in Brownlee Hall to be catered by Schmidt's.
