Bob was born on August 17, 1934, In Wilkes-Barre, PA to the late Robert V. Lynch and Elizabeth (Cannon) Lynch. Bob is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dolores (Manganella) Lynch; their children Maureen (Bruce), Bob (Connie), Tricia (Mark), Brian (Roxanne), and Neil (Cindy), 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, sisters Elizabeth (Betsy) Havira and Margaret (Margie) Livingston, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers Hugh (Dude) Lynch and James Lynch.
Bob led a rich life, professionally, personally and spiritually.
From his first job out of Wilkes College in Wilkes-Barre as the Toms River, NJ High School Marching Band Director, through his musical instrument sales positions that brought the family to Ohio, to his leadership position of Marketing Director for Gibson Guitars in Nashville TN, Bob had great success in placing the right instruments in the hands of students and professional musicians nationwide. His successes were rewarded by industry accolades and fabulous trips for him and Dolores. When their children were approaching college years, Bob and Dolores opened and operated two successful businesses – The Yarn Shop and Sylvan Learning Center, both in the Columbus, OH area.
Bob and Dolores had a wonderful marriage and blessed family life. He adored her. The family enjoyed annual vacations with the entire Lynch clan at his beloved Long Beach Island, NJ and the Outer Banks, NC. Bob and Dolores especially loved spending time with their grandchildren. Through it all, Bob played trumpet in numerous bands – from standards/jazz trios to community bands. He was an avid tennis player, a master at crossword and sudoku puzzles, a long time card player, and a fan of the Cleveland Browns and The Ohio State University Buckeyes.
Spiritually, Bob lived his Catholic faith through his dedication to providing beautiful music at church – as a composer of sung prayers at St. Patrick Church in Kent, OH, and as the Choir Director at St. Michaels Church in Worthington, OH, where he also led the fundraising for a new organ, and where he and his children played horns and sang during holiday masses.
Music was the heartbeat of Bob’s entire life. He was a gifted performer, educator, band leader, choir director and longtime sales professional who touched and inspired so many for over 70 years. A trumpet player who easily picked up any instrument, his legacy lives on in the hearts of his children and grandchildren, and all those who learned from him, played alongside him or were moved by his creations.
Bob was deeply loved and will be forever remembered by all as a smart and truly gentle man with a warm heart, a twinkle in his eye and a witty story or song to bring a smile.
