Bob, the son of Bergin and Maude Barnes Mullinax, grew up in Asheville, North Carolina. He attended the University of North Carolina, receiving a BS in Business Administration in 1967 and a Juris Doctorate in 1973. A recipient of a Reginald Heber Smith Community Law Fellowship from Howard University, Bob moved to Columbus, OH in 1973 and was employed by the Ohio State Legal Services Association for 10 years. In that position, he received the Alvin J. Arnett Award for Outstanding Attorney by the Legal Services National Clients Council. He joined the Ohio Department of Human Services as a Hearing Officer and was subsequently named Chief Legal Counsel for what became the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Service.
But the facet of his life that gave Bob the most joy was gardening. He loved every aspect of it. Once he retired in 2008, he became a Certified Master Gardener through the Ohio State University Extension Office and was an active volunteer for the Chadwick Arboretum at OSU. Bob was also an active member of the German Village Garten Club, where he served as President for three years.
Instead of flowers, please consider making a donation to the German Village Garten Club at www.germanvillagegartenclub.com or by mail PO Box 54, Columbus, OH 43216, in Bob's name. Funeral arrangements entrusted to SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST.
