

Robert Emery Parsons, age 92, passed away on Monday, September 6, 2010. Born August 3, 1918, in Hammondsville, Ohio. Preceded in death by wife, Sestilia (Castelli) Parsons in 1993; parents, James E. Parsons and Gussie F. (Call) Parsons; and sister, Kathleen R. (George) Martin. Graduated from Saline Township High School in Irondale, Ohio, in 1935. Drafted into the Army in 1941. Served in the ETO with the Third Armored Division from Omaha Beach to Berlin. Citations: Bronze Star medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, American Defense Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 1 Silver Star. Civilian Employee of the Department of Defense for 32 years. Received the DSA Meritorious Civilian Service Award upon retirement as Chief of Systems and Programming Division at the Defense Supply Control Center in 1978. Robert is survived by children, Sheila (Thomas) Smith, Carol (David) Samuel, and Barbara (R. Christopher) Doyle; brother, James L. (Mary Lou) Parsons; grandchildren, Ashley and Lisa Doyle, Christina (Jason) Reeg, Thomas (Julie) Smith, Andrew (Laura) Smith, and Matthew (Glenda) Smith; and great grandchildren, Amanda, Isabella, Harrison, Kyle, Jacob and Elise Smith, and Taylor, Alison and Ryan Reeg. Founding member of St. Matthew the Apostle Church. Past Grand-Knight, Council 2803 Knights of Columbus, Member of the Officers Club and Golf Club of DSCC, the Columbus Mannerchor, AMVETS Post 089, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, American Association of Retired Persons, and 3rd Armored Division Association. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, September 9, 2010, at the SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL, 1051 E. Johnstown Road, Gahanna, with prayers at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday at St. Matthew the Apostle Church, 807 Havens Corners Road, Gahanna. Interment will follow at Mifflin Cemetery with military honors.
