Robert Alan “Bob” Reither went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ December 22, 2010 following a brief illness. Bob was born on November 10, 1929. At the age of 9 he had a ruptured appendix and almost died. In June of 1947 he graduated from North High School and was drafted into the U.S. Army in January of 1948. Bob went to Officers Candidate School in Ft. Benning Ga., followed by a tour at Ft. Jackson and then Green Beret training at Ft. Bragg, N.C. He was assigned to Korea during that conflict and extended his tour there when the fighting stopped. He left active military service after 10 years and joined the reserves, where he reached the rank of Colonel. Bob earned a degree in Math Education from The Ohio State University and later earned a Master’s in Math Education from OSU. He taught Math at Marion Franklin High School for more than 30 years and coached the men’s tennis team. After retiring from both the Army Reserves and the Columbus Public School system, Bob assisted the girls’ tennis coach at Marion Franklin for a short time, then taught girls’ tennis at Worthington Christian High School. He was an avid skier and taught skiing at Snow Trails. In the summer Bob could be seen riding his recumbent bicycle in Columbus and around Central Ohio. In retirement Bob found another calling. He began looking for and supporting worthy causes. He was glad to share with others the bounty that the Lord had provided. He asked that the “Lord be praised” for the guidance he has received in these last few years of his life as he has been able to help others. Bob was a charitable and generous person who lived frugally and found peace and satisfaction helping others, especially during the recent difficult times. He was a dedicated and faithful member of Grace Brethren Church of Columbus. Bob was preceded in death by his father and mother and is survived by his brother Charles. A celebration of Bob’s life will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 15, 2011 at GRACE BRETHREN CHURCH ADMINISTRATION BUILDING, 6675 Worthington-Galena Rd., Worthington, OH 43085 with a gathering of friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
