

Dr. Robert W. Wagner, age 92, of Upper Arlington, Ohio passed away on Monday, February 7, 2011 at his home. Bob was born in Newport News, VA on November 16, 1918; he was the son of the late Walter and Barbara Walter. He is survived by his wife, B.J. (Betty Jane) Wiles Wagner; sons, Jonathan R and Laurie Bowers Wagner of Dublin, Jeffrey A. and Lori Stumbo Wagner of Upper Arlington; and daughter, Jennifer Wagner Setterlin and Ralph “Trey” Setterlin, III of Hilliard; grandchildren, Lindsey, Katie, and Jonnie Wagner, Samantha and Chelsea Setterlin, Jessica and Christopher Wagner; brothers, Dr. Alan R. Wagner of Upper Arlington and Dr. Donald E. Wagner of Santa Monica, CA. Bob received his B.S and M.A. degrees in History and Education form The Ohio State University and his Ph.D. in Communications in 1953. Professor Emeritus, the College of the Arts, at The Ohio State University. He was former Chair, Dept. of Photography and Cinema, the College of Engineering, OSU; Professor, Dept. of Communication and College of Education, OSU Head Dept of Cinema, University of Southern California. Motion picture writer-director, Office of War Information, Film writer-director-cinematographer, Office of Coordinator of Inter-American Affairs, South and Central America; Chief, Mental Hygiene Information, Ohio Dept. of Public Welfare; Pres. University Film and Video Foundation; Trustee Emeritus, The American Film Institute; V. Pres. International Congress of Schools of Film and Television, Brussells; Cultural Arts Commission, Upper Arlington, the Film Council of Greater Columbus, The Columbus Mannerchor, The Columbus Museum of Art, The Ohio Historical Society, The Columbus Torch Club International. He taught at Arizona State, University of Puerto Rico, Danish Film Institute, Copenhagen, San Jose State, Emerson College, Boston, Loyola University, Montreal, Fu Jen University, Tam-Kang Universities, Taipei; Lectured at Colorado State University, Oklahoma University, Yale, Australian National Film School; National Culture Center, Columbo, Sri Lanka, National Film Academy, Beijing, P.R. China, Nihon University, Tokyo, The Sorbonne, Paris, Hochschule, fur Film und Bild, Munich: Karl Marx University, Leipsig, San Marcos University, Lima, Peru; Stavrakos School of Cinema, Athens, Greece. Bob was dedicated to his wife, B.J. and was a proud and loving father and grandfather. Bob was an avid writer, photographer and observer of life. He enjoyed many happy summers with his family at his cabin on Lake Maranacook in Readfield, ME. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 11, 2011 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Schoedinger Northwest Chapel, 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus, Ohio 43221; where funeral services will be on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 10:00 am, Dr. Wayne Nicholson officiating.
