Roberto "Bert" Duro

Roberto G. "Bert" Duro, age 82, of Hilliard passed away Saturday, January 16, 2021. He was born on May 18, 1938 in Mambugsay, Negros Occidental, Philippines, to the late Bonifacio and Praxedes (Gonzalez) Duro Sr. Bert is survived by his wife of 52 years, Teresita Duro; children, Ronald Duro and Maria (Shawn) Robinson; grandchildren, Colin and Wyatt Robinson; siblings, Carmen Santes, Justinano Duro Sr., Bonifacio Duro Jr., Pablito Duro, and Maricar Garcia; and numerous family members in Ohio, Arizona, California, Canada, and the Philippines.

In addition to his parents, Bert was preceded in death by his sister Florita Montano and brother Edwin Duro.

Bert was a graduate of Cebu Institute of Technology receiving a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1960. He retired from American Electric Power as a Senior Engineering Technologist in 1999 after 23 years of service.

Bert was passionate about exercise always striving to reach his goal of 25, 000 steps per day and well known by the staff at the Hilliard YMCA. Bert was a family man. He helped many of his family members immigrate from the Philippines. He was always proud and dedicated to his two grandsons often times taking them to school and soccer practice. Bert attended church weekly at St. Brendan The Navigator Catholic Church and prior to that was a member of Saint Joan of Arc in Powell, Ohio. Bert enjoyed music, karaoke and meeting new people everywhere he went. We will always remember his distinctive laugh and his love for his Filipino Heritage and cooking.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, January 22, 2020 at St. Brendan The Navigator Catholic Church, 4475 Dublin Road, Hilliard, Ohio 43026. Interment at Sunset Cemetery, Galloway, Ohio. To view a livestream of the service, please visit .
