ROGER D. KNOTT, JR. of Henderson, NV. Died at age 72 in San Diego where he had been treated for heart disease for the past three years. After waiting on a heart transplant list for two years, a heart became available and was successfully transplanted on January 1. The new heart was strong and Roger was home and back to a normal, active life. Then he had a massive stroke on Jan. 28. His new heart was transplanted in another patient on the waiting list as well as other organs to other patients.
Roger graduated from St. Charles Preparatory and The Ohio State University. After graduation, he served in the Navy for two years. He worked in advertising and marketing for Fortune 500 companies; was a McDonald’s franchisee in San Jose, CA with his wife, Carol, for 11 years; and eventually he spent six years working for Clark County, NV.
After retirement, Roger became a docent on the USS Midway Museum in San Diego (old aircraft carrier turned into a museum). This was his passion. He looked forward to his Sunday morning “watch” on the ship.
Roger is survived by his wife of 33 years, Carol; daughters, Kirstin of Arlington, VA and Kelly of Mansfield, OH; son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren, Roger III and Laura, Kyle and Amanda of Los Gatos, CA; sister, Sue Holmes of Columbus; nephew and his wife, Uri and Jennifer Holmes of Dublin, OH; and former wife, Mary Knott-Wynne of Hilliard. Please consider becoming an organ donor if you’re not already one. If you think you’re not a candidate, maybe your corneas and/or tissue can help some patients have a better life.
