Ronald Denny

He was born June 19, 1941, in New Lexington, Ohio, to the late Robert and Evelyn Denny.

Ron attended New Lexington High School, where he was class president, played trumpet in the band, active in the theater and played on the basketball team. Ron served in the US Navy from 1959-1963, and enjoyed sharing stories of his adventures in the Mediterranean aboard the USS WASP. On his return to the US, he married Carolyn "Carrie" Bernhagen and lived in Rantoul, Illinois for his job as a manager with Sears. The family returned to New Lexington in 1976. Ron worked at Central Silica while raising his boys and managing the family farm.

Ron was known around New Lex for his ornery sense of humor, his East Coast swing dancing and volunteering with the athletic boosters with Carrie for New Lex and the Perry County Fair. He was a jack-of-all trades and could fix anything after the right mix of curse words. Ron played trumpet at the First United Methodist Church and was involved in all the boys' activities. Ron was a hardworking, unselfish, giving, loving man, who always put his family and friends first.

One of his favorite pastimes was spending hours on the boat fishing with his son, Michael. The brothers' favorite story that demonstrates his commitment to a cause, as well as his "Denny stubbornness" occurred up on Lake Erie. Ron and Mike were fishing in a tournament when Ron got a fish on his line. The fish pulled the line into the water, and Ron jumped right in after it. Mike looked over the side of the boat and saw Ron swimming to the surface - eyes bulging, sunglasses catawampus, and the fish yanking him back down.

He is survived by his sons Michael (Teresa), Todd (Karen), and Mark (Sarah) Denny; multiple grandchildren, his little puppy Tilly and his brothers Norman Denny and Mark Denny.

Visiting hours will be held at Schoedinger's Funeral Home in Worthington from 10-11am on January 1st. Burial will be next to his wife and parents at the New Lexington Cemetery with a brief graveside service at 10am on Saturday, January 2nd.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his honor to: The New Lexington Orange and Black Boosters in support of youth athletics in New Lexington.
