Ruth Irene Belknap (née Carter), passed away May 9, 2025 at 93 after an extended battle with Alzheimer’s. Born October 15, 1931 to Ruth and Harold Carter in Pataskala, Ohio. She was predeceased by husband, Willard in 1977 and daughter, Karen in 2014. She is survived by daughter, Shirley Briggs (Joseph), granddaughters, Lorelei Briggs, Elyse Benner (Kevin) and Gwynne Briggs (Brian Kron) and great-grandchildren, Maxwell and Lillian Benner.
Known to many as the flower lady on Hague Avenue, she nurtured a stunning garden enjoyed by all. She was part of several flower clubs including the Daylily Society, Horticulture Club and volunteering at the Columbus Park of Roses. As a longtime member of Glenwood United Methodist Church, she shared her gardening talents, along with serving as a Trustee, and member of United Methodist Women. Ruthie was a 60+ year member of Order of Eastern Star (past Worthy Matron), White Shrine, Pythian Sisters, Order of Amaranth and Daughters of the Nile Masonic lodges. She also enjoyed quilting and sewing. As a Columbus West High alumna (1949) and band parent, she sewed new capes for the West High Weskets in 1978. She retired from Sears Distribution Center as a fork lift driver. No task was too big or difficult for her. She loved a game of Euchre or visiting at her kitchen table.
We appreciate greatly the care and support she received from the Inn at Bear Trail and Care360 Hospice. They brought out her smile.
