Ruth studied language and education at Capitol University (’47). For many years, she set aside her desire to teach Spanish to care for her beloved daughter, Mary Anne, who was mentally retarded. Ruth immersed herself in the then-infant Franklin County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities program, driving a school bus and volunteering. In later years, Ruth would realize her dream of teaching at Canal Winchester High School. She loved the piano and accordion, and was an organist at Advent Lutheran Church in Upper Arlington. In 2010, Ruth was diagnosed with Dementia. During the course of the disease, she did her best to be upbeat and alert until her passing.
