Ruth M. Griffith

Ruth M. Griffith, 82, of Columbus, passed peacefully into eternal life on Monday, October 24, 2011 with her family at her side. She was born May 16, 1929 in Wood County, Ohio and was a 1947 graduate of Lake High School.

She attended Davis Business School in Toledo and worked three years at Torrance Radio in Toledo. Later she also worked as a secretary for the Upper Arlington School Board and spent time working at home as bookkeeper for her church and for the Upper Arlington Swimming Pools. Ruth was an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and was very involved with community organizations including the Grandview Civic Welfare Club and the Women’s Association of the Columbus Symphony. She spent many hours volunteering for the Lutheran Social Services Food Pantries.

Ruth was first and foremost a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a lifelong giver to others and put everyone else before herself. Ruth was an avid reader, accomplished seamstress, and a self-taught pianist. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit and her wonderful smile.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Thelma (Young) Schober; sister, Ila; father and mother-in-law, Jesse M. and Yvonne (Davis) Griffith. Ruth will be missed by her loving husband of 62 years, Bill; children, Sue (Jeff) Shough, Mark (Kathy) Griffith, and Jean (Rick) Griffith; grandchildren, Amy (Bruce) Isler, Holly (Adam) Fitch, Matthew (Cindy) Griffith, Brendan (Kerstin) Griffith, and Jesse, Erin, and Jacob Griffith; great-grandchildren, Paul and Grace Isler and Cora and Miles Fitch; sisters, Helen Birr and Jane (Robert) Sibbersen; brother, Lee Schober; sister-in-law Alberta Rush, brother-in-law Ed (Mary Ellen) Griffith; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Family will receive friends Thursday, October 27, 2011 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd., Columbus. Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct 28, 2011 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2001 Northwest Blvd., Upper Arlington, Pastor Steve Wachtman, officiating. Interment in Union Cemetery.
