Ruth attended what is now Washington Adventist University in 1944 where she met her husband Benton. They began dating in the spring of 1945 and were married at the end of the year. Ruth worked as a legal and executive secretary throughout her life. Family was at the center of her life, and her biggest joy came from being around her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She found joy in gardening, especially growing all types of flowers, and supporting various mission projects. She was an active member of the Worthington Seventh-day Adventist Church, and her faith was central to her life. Ruth enjoyed keeping active, helping with everyday household chores, and she also walked faithfully nearly every day, up until several weeks before her death.
