The family of Sally Luethi Havens is very sad to announce that Sally slipped away peacefully on Monday, September 1st at home at Hidden Meadow Farm located in Delaware, Ohio. Born in Columbus, Ohio on January 22, 1929, she was the daughter of Charles Harold and Freda Davidson Luethi.
Those who knew her well, knew she was the “Grand Dame” of our family. She was a force of nature, an avid reader, a gifted writer, a fantastic cook, a gracious hostess, and an expert at giving the right advice at the right time. She was a graduate of the Columbus School for Girls, Class of ‘46, and attended the Ohio State University where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and met her future husband John (Jack) F. Havens. Sally and Jack were married on June 20, 1950, at the Bexley Methodist Church. They celebrated 67 years of marriage before Jack passed away in December of 2017. Sally’s only sister Suzanne Luethi Ross, passed away in June of 2018. She is also preceded in death by her eldest son, John Christopher Havens and daughter-in-law, Barbara Bryant Havens.
Sally and Jack loved their life together and took full advantage of every opportunity and adventure that came their way. Since 1970, they lived at Hidden Meadow Farm where they created a lifetime of lasting memories for their family and life-long friends. In the winter months, Sally and Jack resided at The Chateau in Naples, Florida. They treasured their time there and were surrounded by a group of neighbors whom they truly cherished. Nothing was more important to Sally than her family and dear friends.
Surviving are her daughters Ellen H. (Mark) Hardymon, Suzanne H. (Philipp) Nick; and son Thomas F. Havens; her five grandchildren, John F. (Michaella) Havens, Parker R. Havens, Elizabeth A. Nick (Benjamin Pryor), Emily A. Nick (Francis Pena Carrillo) and Elliot A. Nick; her three great grandchildren Isabeau, Nola and Willow Havens; nieces and nephews Stephen (Donna) Ross, Carol Ross Gammon and Jeffrey Ross; Dysle Butts, Dana (Dick) Owen, Sara (David) Turner, Susan (Tom) Virtue, and Amy (Dan) Hoffman; Victoria Scott and Jamie (Kathy) Havens; and other cherished family members and close personal friends.
The Havens family would like to sincerely recognize Jackie Brooks with Assurance Care Group and in particular each and every caregiver who supported Sally and Jack during their later years. The family is deeply indebted to these gracious ladies for their compassion, care, and special attention. They were a blessing. In addition, we would also like to thank OhioHealth Hospice / Compassus for their competence and gentle guidance.
As requested, a private family service will be held at a later date. The ashes of Sally and Jack, along with sister Suzanne will be entrusted to the Gulf of Mexico, off the coast of Naples. They will all be deeply missed. In lieu of flowers, contributions, if you desire, may be made to the charity of your choice. SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST is entrusted with final arrangements.
