Samuel E. Ingwersen, age 95, passed away on Monday, October 3, 2022. Sam was born on March 23, 1927 in Aurora, Illinois to the late John and Marianne (Bradt) Ingwersen. Also preceding in death was his loving wife Frances (Robinson) Ingwersen; and son Eric Ingwersen. Sam grew up in Middletown, Ohio, where he went to school, worked at the Armco Steel Mill, and played golf. He earned his architectural degree at Miami University and Cornell University. While at Miami University, he met his future wife, Frances, and was Co-Captain of the golf team. He and his wife raised their four sons in Bexley, Ohio. Sam was a life-long member of the Webhannet Golf Club in Kennebunk, Maine, and the Columbus Country Club. He was an avid skier and enjoyed many family ski trips.
Professionally, Sam was an architect and the principal in his own firm which was noted for its expertise in institutional design. Sam was perhaps most well-known both for his passion for the game of golf and for his ability to portray the beauty of the game through his watercolor paintings that remain widely collected and admired. He was the inventor of a prototype golf game and most recently authored and published a book exploring the use of design and game theory in the game of golf, “Dangerous Beauty”.
