Sao Hem will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering patience, and deep kindness. A man of few words but great heart, he approached life with humility and treated everyone he met with respect and compassion. He believed in seeing the best in people and extended grace without hesitation.
He proudly served in the Cambodian Air Force and lived through the harrowing Khmer Rouge regime — a survivor in every sense, whose resilience shaped his deeply grounded spirit.
A devoted Buddhist, Sao Hem practiced his faith with sincerity and consistency. Year after year, he gave his time and financial support to the local temple, attending ceremonies, supporting the monks, and living according to the teachings of compassion, generosity, and mindfulness.
At the heart of his life was family. As a dedicated husband and father to his son and daughter, he provided love, wisdom, and a steady presence that anchored their lives. His actions spoke volumes, and his gentle demeanor left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Sao Hem also had a soft spot for animals, especially cats. He was well known for feeding stray cats in his neighborhood, offering them care as naturally and generously as he did for the people around him.
He met the challenges of his later years with quiet courage, surrounded by those who loved him. His legacy of love, dignity, faith, and compassion will live on.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 11, at 10:00 a.m. at Schoedinger East Chapel, 5360 E Livingston Ave, Columbus, OH 43232. The service will include Buddhist monk prayers and will be followed by a procession to the cemetery.
He will be deeply missed and forever cherished."
