Shaun departed this life at Kobacker House, Columbus, on Thursday, December 23, 2010, surrounded by loving friends and family. Shaun was born in Tampa, FL on November 5, 1962. He was raised in Indiana, graduating from Richmond Public High School, Richmond, IN and from Ball State University in Muncie, IN. While attending Ball State University, Shaun founded the Beta Beta chapter of Kappa Delta Rho fraternity. Shaun spent most of his adult life in and around the Columbus, OH area, receiving more education at Ohio State University, enjoying the company of many, many friends, and following his favorite sports teams: Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Bengals, and Ohio Buckeyes. Shaun also attended Buddhist retreats several times each year; he felt very priviledged to have Chan Master Sheng-Yen as his teacher. Shaun found a great deal of fulfillment working as the assistant general manager of PetSmart Distribution Center in Groveport, OH. Recently, the associates at PetSmart were recognized by the American Cancer Society for rallying around Shaun after he was diagnosed with glioblastoma- a type of brain cancer- in June 2009. Co-workers would take on his workload as he went through treatment, supporting him emotionally and physically, plus making financial resources available to him. Shaun touched many people throughout his life experiences; he will be missed but never forgotten by those who knew and loved him. Shaun is preceded by his father, John McCarty, loving grandparents Dorothy and Marion Chizum and Henrietta and Murray McCarty. Shaun is survived by his loving mother, Mary Ann Eckhardt of Hingham, Massachusetts, sisters Cara McCarty Chavez of Denver, Colorado and Cosima Zehring of Framingham, Massachusetts, adoring nephew and nieces Tyrone, Jessantay, and Calista Zehring of Framingham, Massachusetts and Annika Chavez of Denver, Colorado. A celebration of the life of Shaun McCarty will take place on Tuesday at 7 PM at SCHOEDINGER EAST CHAPEL, 5360 E Livingston Ave. Family will receive friends from 4 PM until time of service. Donation to HomeReach Hospice will be gratefully appreciated. Online condolences may be made to www.schoedinger.com
