Shirley Ann Eddy, age 74, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Thursday, March 26, 2026. Shirley was born on September 1, 1951, in Columbus, Ohio, to Willard Eugene Routte Sr. and Rena Belle Durkee.
Shirley was a faithful and devoted member of The Potter’s House Church of God, where she was active in the women’s ministry, senior choir, and many other church activities. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she welcomed everyone with warmth, kindness, and a spirit of inclusion that made all feel loved and accepted.
Shirley found joy in cooking for her family and loved hosting holiday gatherings where everyone felt at home. Her kitchen was always filled with laughter, delicious aromas, good food, and open arms. She also enjoyed playing cards, bingo, pool, bowling, and working on jigsaw and crossword puzzles. She had a deep love for her pets and found peace and wonder in nature—especially while visiting her favorite destination, Seabrook Island, South Carolina, where she treasured ocean views, sunsets, and observing dolphins, turtle hatchlings, deer, birds, and butterflies.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert “Ab” Thacker; her parents, Willard Routte and Rena Thacker; siblings Patricia, Karen, Richard, and Willard Jr. (Elaine); sister-in-law Janice; step-children Nolan “Buster” Hall, Martha Klessmit, April Thacker; and her baby boy.
She is survived by her daughter, Rena Eddy (Andrew Binford); step-children Cheryle Thacker, Tina Spencer, Mark Clendenin, Angel Clendenin, and Kenneth Bircher; siblings David Routte and Beverly (Lenny) Friend; sister-in-law Tammy; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, extended family, and dear friends.
A service honoring her life will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services by Schoedinger Hilltop, 3030 W. Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43204, where friends may visit following the service from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m.
May we find comfort in knowing that Shirley’s love, compassion, and unwavering faith touched so many lives. Her legacy of kindness, inclusion, and helping others will continue to shine through all who knew her.
