

Shirley Ann (Brown) Kendall, 76, of Columbus, passed away Sunday, August 14, 2011. She was born July 29, 1935 in Holloway, Ohio and was a 1953 graduate of Flushing High School. Shirley received her nursing degree from Ohio Valley Nursing School in West Virginia.
She practiced in New York, New Jersey, Florida, and Connecticut with her friend Bobbi Mullins and went to France to care for a special patient. Shirley settled in Columbus, first working at OSU Hospital and more recently Harding Hospital for 25 years. She was proud to be a nurse for 50 years.
Shirley married Robert E. Kendall in 1966. She was a longtime member of Karl Road Christian Church where she taught Sunday school in years past. Shirley made friends wherever she went, loved meeting people, and had a magnetic personality. She was a good listener and talker, very caring and compassionate and loved spending time with her family, especially grandchildren. Shirley enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, and writing letters and Christmas cards. She wrote letters to friends in 38 states. Shirley will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Kendall; parents, Arthur and Phyllis Brown; and brother-in-law, Gene Willis. Shirley will be missed by her loving sons, Zachary R. Kendall and Joshua B. Kendall (fiancée Tricia Mathews); grandchildren, Jordan and Layla; siblings, Maxine (Jim) Dunlap, Sally (John) Arnold, Madolin (Mike) Grinstead, Judy Willis, Jimmy (Jane) Brown, Pam (Kurt) Stubbs, and Faith (Randy) Burghy; many nieces and nephews; numerous friends from Harding Hospital, and longtime friends from Burnley Court.
Family will receive friends Wednesday, August 17, 2011 from 5-8 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, 5554 Karl Rd., Columbus, OH, where the funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Rev. Margot G. Conner, officiating. Interment to follow the service at Glen Rest Memorial Estate.
