Shirley Ann Oakes, 80 of Columbus, died Sunday, September 9, 2012. She was born May 13, 1932 in St. Louis, MO to the late Clarence and Marie (Marks) Nieman. She had a good sense of humor, enjoyed crossword puzzles, feeding the birds and squirrels and gardening. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and awesome grandmother. She is preceded in death by two children Lisa Fontanarosa and Janet Oakes. Survived by John, her loving husband for sixty years, children Susan Oakes and John L. Oakes III (Laurel Politis), grandchildren Theresa (Jason) Lowrie, Stephen Mamula, Abigail Ward, Taylor Oakes, Alex Ward, Zane Oakes and Claire Oakes, two great grandchildren Kaylie and Katlyn Lowrie. Family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8 PM at SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, 5554 Karl Rd. where a funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 AM. Interment will follow in Pioneer Cemetery.
