Shirley L. Ross, nee Newman, of Upper Arlington passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at Kobacker House after a 9 month struggle with breast cancer with family by her side. Born in Portsmouth, Ohio October 16, 1934. Graduated Portsmouth High School in 1953 and moved to the “big city” of Columbus to attend beauty school where she met her husband of 57 years Woodward “Tom” Ross. Together they ran a chain of hair salons, Cut and Curl for many years. Shirley later went to work for Whetstone Garden and Care Center where she found her true calling helping the patients and families. Shirley never met a stranger and was kind to everyone she encountered in her day. Shirley lived what seemed like an ordinary life but was extraordinary in the way she treated others. She will be missed every day by her husband, Tom Ross; daughters, Christy (Rich) Brockunier of Califon, New Jersey, Cindy (Paul) Kruse of Upper Arlington, Ohio; grandchildren Ross Brockunier, Keith Brockunier, Emma Kruse and Paul Kruse; as well as her constant companion dogs, Izzy and Esther. She is also survived by her sister, Phyllis Cooper and too many wonderful friends to mention. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at The Stefanie Spielman Comprehensive Breast Center and HomeReach Hospice/Kobacker House. There will be a celebration of life held at 7 PM on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2001 Northwest Blvd., where family will receive friends from 6 PM until time of service. In lieu of flowers you may contribute to Kobacker c/o OhioHealth Foundation, 180 East Broad St. Cols, Oh 43215. And in her memory go out of your way to be kind to the strangers you meet, for talking to you may be the best part of their day. Arrangements by SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL.
