Sonya Yvette Hooks, 43, heard God’s final calling on August 17, 2011 after a nine-year battle with cancer. Born in Toldeo, OH on July 18, 1968, Sonya will be fondly remembered as a loving wife, daughter, sister, friend and a successful business and marketing professional in the telecommunications field. Ask her though, and she’d tell you her life’s biggest accomplishment was the birth of her two children, Maximillian and Ethan. Sonya worked as a major account manager for Time Warner Telecom, where she excelled in telecommunications sales. She previously worked at AT&T as a senior account manager. Through the years Sonya received numerous accolades for her sales accomplishments to such clients as the State of Ohio, Columbus Public Schools and The Ohio State University. Sonya was relentless- she battled cancer and parented her sons all while being a consistent top sales performer. She was successful in growing the business and had the admiration of all of her customers and colleagues. Sonya began her collegiate studies at the University of Dayton and received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in pre-law and sociology from Capital University in Columbus. She attended high school at Notre Dame Academy in Toledo. Sonya is survived by her husband, Kevin; her children, Maximillian and Ethan; parents, Lillian Hackney and William (Evelyn) Hackney; sister, Suzette Hackney; a brother-figure, Sylvester Gould Jr.; and grandmother, Perlene Clarke. She is also survived by a host of cousins, relatives and friends. Family will receive friends Saturday from 10 AM until time of service at 11 AM at Faith Ministries Church, 2747 Agler Rd., Columbus. SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Sonya Hooks Memorial Fund, established at Huntington Bank for the future education of her sons, Max and Ethan.
