Stuart David Mallinger was born on July 16, 1947 to Aaron and Florence Mallinger, in Pittsburgh, PA. He spent his childhood there, graduating from Peabody High School in 1965. He then attended Kent State University, where several of his roommates would become lifelong friends. After graduation in 1969, he moved to Columbus, where he would meet his future wife Carin Chmielniak in 1974. They were married in 1977 in the Park of Roses, and eventually had two sons.
Throughout his life he worked selling lamps and home furnishings, but his most important job was being a father to Adam and Phil. He was always supportive of their ambitions and dreams, even when the odds against success were long, and he was a devoted husband to Carin. Known within the family for his good humor and practical jokes, he brought a smile to everyone who knew him. It wasn't uncommon for friends of his children who met him once twenty years earlier to fondly recount their conversation with him.
His favorite film was The Wizard of Oz, which fittingly contained the line, "A heart is not judged by how much it loves, but by how much you are loved by others."
He is survived by his wife Carin Chmielniak, his sons Adam (Erica Berger) Mallinger and Phil (Heather) Mallinger, grandsons Austen, Drew and Reeve, his sister Sharon (Sanford) Zarkin, in-laws Betty (Jim) Grace, Christine Chmielniak (Mason Bowles) and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents Aaron and Florence Mallinger.
