Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Susan Selb Allbee passed away peacefully, yet unexpectedly, on December 16, 2025, in Upper Arlington, Ohio. Susan (or Sue as most people knew her) will be remembered most for her big, generous heart and the way she was always there for anyone who needed a smile, kind word, or helping hand. She lived a faith-filled life of serving others, yet she knew how to have a good time - always!
Sue was born in Merced, California, to Edward and Beatrice Selb. She was an only child for 11 years before welcoming her brother and only sibling, Ted. She went to UC Berkeley (class of 1959), where she met the love of her life, Ronald Wayne Allbee, her first day on campus. Sue was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority where she served as President and then went on to volunteer as Chapter Advisor. She and Ron married on December 28, 1958, and honeymooned in their "happy place" of Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. They welcomed three children, Lynne, Scott and Alison before relocating from the Bay Area to Upper Arlington, Ohio- where they all joyously welcomed surprise baby #4, Heather. They enjoyed raising their family in Upper Arlington, where all the children attended St. Agatha School and either Bishop Watterson or Upper Arlington High School. Sue and Ron became avid Ohio State football fans and enjoyed many tailgates with beloved friends and family!
They relocated to Longwood, Florida, in 1989, fully embracing the Florida lifestyle while continuing to visit Upper Arlington often, before returning permanently in 2024. During their many years in Florida, the highlight for the family was Christmas week at Mamaw and Pops' house. Christmas wa truly Sue's holiday - she embodied the spirit of the season, spreading love, kindness, and cheer.
Every Christmas until the pandemic in 2020 was spent together in Longwood with the entire Allbe clan. Ron proudly donned his famous red Santa suit, with his devoted Mrs. Claus by his side, delivering Christmas Eve pajamas and ornaments to each child and grandchild — a cherished tradition that will live on for generations.
When not hosting people in their home, Sue and Ron loved to travel! Most travel involved visiting their four children and eight grandchildren spread out across the country. The grandkids loved when Mamaw and Pops would come for a visit. Most memorably you could find them on Ron's motorcycle. They loved to load "the bike" on the trailer and meet up with Sue's brother, Ted, and his wife Sheila, anywhere and everywhere for adventurous motorcycle rides. They enjoyed experiencing nature, seeing new places and the crazy adventure of countless road trips! Many Saturdays while home, they would jump on the bike and head to various beaches across Florida for a special lunch date/day trip. It kept them young! In their almost 67 years of marriage, they often figured out a way to get back to Carmel to celebrate their love for each other, celebrating anniversaries at the Tickle Pink Inn where they honeymooned, watching sunsets on Carmel Beach, and attending mass at The Mission. They enjoyed many trips to Ireland as well, where Sue loved the green rolling hills (and Ron loved the scotch!). They were the best role models for showing their family and friends what true love looks like. Their secret? They never stopped dating each other!
Sue lived a blessed life. While she enjoyed staying home with her children in the early years, she eventually went on to have careers in mental health and non-profit work, helping so many people in need along the way. She was the best listener and always had amazing words of wisdom - whether family, friend, or stranger. But Sue's family was her greatest legacy of all. She is survived by her husband, Ron Allbee; her children, Lynne Allenspach, Scott Allbee (Victoria), Alison Morgan (John), and Heather Byrne (Colby); her grandchildren, Kendra Allenspach, Paige Allenspach, Coltyn Allbee, Erik Morgan, Austin Morgan, Brayden Byrne, Tanner Byrne, and Beckett Byrne; her brother Ted Selb (Sheila) and sister-in-law, Kathleen Careaga; as well as many treasured friends.
Sue will be missed beyond measure, but the memories she leaves behind are priceless! Her laughter is what we will miss the most - as this Mom and Mamaw knew how to have fun - even if the laughter was at her own expense. She was a trooper in putting up with all of us. She truly made her house a welcoming place for all and loved having everyone all under one roof. No one ever had to question how much she genuinely loved them, nor did she ever question how much she was oved! She was the best mom, Mamaw, and family matriarch of all. Hers was truly a life well lived!
