Susan J Martin

Sue Starbird Martin passed away December 11, 2022. She was born July 13, 1947 in Mineola, New York. She attended Heidelberg University and graduated from Ohio University in 1971 with a Master’s Degree in audiology and Speech Science. She worked more than 40 years as a Clinical Audiologist in Steubenville, Newark and Zanesville, Ohio. Sue was a life-time member of the Ohio Speech, Hearing and Language Association and the American Speech and Hearing Association. Sue really enjoyed exploring her genealogy and traveling, particularly to Alaska, Ireland and Hilton Head Island. She was passionate about her family and friends, animal welfare and people dealing with hunger issues. Following 9/11, Sue returned home after 9 months on Long Island and dedicated her time to volunteering with Forgotten 4Paws and the PCMA Food Pantry. She was a member of Peace United Methodist Church and the Reynoldsburg Emmaus Community. Sue is survived by her husband of 40 years, Orville (Marty); sister-in-law, Eileen K. Starbird; nieces, Jennifer Starbird, Meredith (Josh) Starbird Oliver; great-nephew, Aidan Starbird Oliver; cousins, Edward J. Conover, Sandy Starbird Hemen, Ramona Starbird Tate, William (Buster) G. Starbird and Judy Cleverly Halberson. She is preceded in death by her brother, Edward W. Starbird; parents, Dorothea C. and Harry V. Starbird; grandparents, Edward (Carolyn) L. and Martha Coffill and Amelia and William Starbird. Friends may visit from 5pm-7pm on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at Schoedinger East Funeral Home, 5360 E. Livingston Avenue, Columbus, OH 43232. A celebration of her life will take place at 10:00 am on Thursday, December 22nd at Peace United Methodist Church, 235 Diley Road, Pickerington, OH 43147. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 5600 E. Broad Street, Columbus, OH 43213. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Forgotten 4Paws, P.O. Box 134, Pickerington, OH 43147 and PCMA Food Pantry, 70 Cross Street, Pickerington, OH 43147 in Sue’s memory.
