A gentle soul departed this Earth April 19th to meet his true love, Ruth on a golf course in Heaven. Born January 3rd, 1923 to Frank Kennedy Brown and Dorothy Aust Brown, Ted graduated from North High School and The Ohio State University where he was a Kappa Sig. On a magical blind date (his side of the story) to a Cleveland Browns football game, he fell madly in love with his, “Ruthie”. One can only hope to be as close of friends and as in love as those two were for 55 years.
In the middle of his College years, Ted enlisted as a Marine pilot serving his Country in the Pacific during WWII and was called up for the Korean War. He was only two downed planes short of being an ACE. His love of his friends in the Corp kept him in the Reserves, where he did Active Duty two weeks each Summer while his family enjoyed a vacation in Cherry Point and Quantico. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel
Ted worked as a builder with his father and as a real estate appraiser at Dollar Federal. He was a member of Kiwanis, the Scottish Rite, the Athletic Club, Hideaway Hills, City Club, Columbus Country Club and Sawgrass Country Club in Florida. He had a special love for his dogs, St. Bernards and beagles, walking them daily up the driveway of the Columbus Academy.
Our Dad was the kindest, gentlest, most generous and peaceful man who never made an enemy in his life.
Ted or Cuppa is lovingly missed by his sons, Jeffrey (Amy) Brown and Kenny (Blythe) Brown, a baby daughter who died shortly after birth and his grandchildren Andrew, Casey, Michael, Daniel and Kelly. Ted relished attending every one of their sporting or school events. Is also survived by his sisters Barbara Jean Taylor and Nancylu Sarver.
There will be a private graveside service for the family. A celebration of life and open house for family and friends will be held at Columbus Country Club from 3-5pm on Saturday, 4/23. Those wishing to make contributions in Ted’s name can do so at the Childhood League, Columbus Academy or the American Cancer Society.
