Born August 2, 1938 he was the only child of the late Dean 0. Jones and Norma Lyons Jones. Tom graduated from South High School in 1956 and was a 1960 graduate of Ohio University where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity.
After serving in the military and reserves he went to work for the Shell Oil Co. working in Ohio, Michigan and Iowa. In 1969 he began employment with AAA and became Executive Vice President of the Ohio AAA Association in 1971. When the association merged with several Ohio clubs in 1978 he became President of the newly formed Ohio Automobile Club. He served as president until his retirement in 2002. During his time with AAA Tom served on many national committees.
He is a past member of Columbus Rotary and Worthington Chamber of Commerce and has volunteered with the Delaware Co. Red Cross and Grady Hospital. He was currently serving as Chairman of the Board of the Delaware Co. Transit.
Tom was the "go-to" guy of the family and there were only six words needed to describe him:
"He just knew what to do". Whether it was a small problem, a family crisis or a tough decision to be made at work, he just knew what to do. He was always there, not just for the immediate family but always had time to mentor and lend support to numerous nieces, nephews and young friends of the family.
Among those who will dearly miss his love and wisdom include his wife of nearly 42 years, Margaret Ann (Porter), daughters Tami Jones of Columbus, Jennifer (Heath) Cook of Powder Springs, Ga., stepdaughters, Suzanne (Michael) Sullivant and Kristin Blake of Clearwater, Fl., Elizabeth (Ray) Pope of Vinton, Oh.
