

Vanieta Dorothy (Boone) Decker, age 78, died at home with her husband and daughter by her side on Thursday, August 12, 2010. She was born on January 15, 1932, in Columbus, Ohio, the only child of the late James C. and Ethel Boone. She graduated from South High School, class of 1949, and worked for the State of Ohio Bureau of Unemployment for 13 years. She was married to Bill Decker on November 28, 1952, at Thurman Avenue Methodist Church, and the two worked together to establish Decker & Associates Construction. Vanieta is survived by her husband, Bill Decker; daughter, Janelle Decker Whiteman; son-in-law, Dr. Scott Whiteman (of the Willow Wood Animal Hospital and Resort); three grandchildren, Andrew, Lexi and Natali Whiteman; and two precious dogs, Dolly and Nikki. Vanieta was a member of Eastern Star, Beacon Chapter #593, and was a charter member of the New Albany Country Club. She served as officer in the Arabian Horse Association of Ohio, where they raised, bred, and showed Arabian Horses. She was strong and determined, and she will be missed. Family will receive friends from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, August 15, 2010, at the SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL, 1051 E. Johnstown Road, Gahanna. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
