

Walter D. Johnson, 59, of Gahanna, entered into rest Wednesday, March 20, 2013. He was born November 8, 1953 in Findlay, Ohio and was a 1971 graduate of Upper Arlington H.S. Walter attended Whittenburg University and The Ohio State University and graduating from Otterbein University in 1979.
Walter was a World Class Duplicate bridge player winning the 1985 Kaplan Blue Ribbons Pairs and the 1990 and 2010 ACBL Grand National Teams Championship Flight.
He had a brilliant mind for bridge and found joy in mentoring local and international students. He was a true “Bucknut” who had a booming voice, was thoughtful, intelligent, reliable, loyal, and opinionated. Walter was a devoted and fiercely loving father to Tyler, Bryn, and Hunter and is dearly missed by his family.
He was preceded in death by his mother and sister, Joanne and Jill Johnson. Walter will be missed by his loving children, Tyler Johnson, Bryn (Brittany) McKnight, and Hunter McKnight; granddaughters, Aria and Misha; mother to his children, Terri Johnson; father, Ernest Johnson; sister, Amy (Kevin) Scott and their children, Alexander, Emily, and Evan; and four cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2013 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd., Columbus, OH, where a reception will be held immediately following the service until 5:30 p.m. To share memories or condolences, visit www.schoedinger.com.
