Walter W. Keener

Walter served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and recently made the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. He retired from Columbia Gas of Ohio in 1985 and moved to Surfside Beach, SC where he has since been thoroughly enjoying his retirement. He enjoyed traveling overseas with his late wife, Mary, walking the beach, riding his bike, playing bocce ball, golfing, bowling, and socializing. Walter never met a stranger and was known as “The Mayor” by the other residents of Ocean Side Village. He was an active member of Shepherd of the Sea Lutheran Church. He was very spiritual and always kept a positive attitude. Walter will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary in 1998. Walter will be missed by his loving children, Marianne Burton, Michael (Renee) Keener, Patrick Keener, and Kate Pladars; 12 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandson.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Shepherd of the Sea Lutheran Church, 3637 S. Hwy. 17, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576, Pastor Brad Bellah, officiating.
