Wilbur Lee (Webb) Wigginton passed away at home with his family present February 4, 2025. Born August 16, 1933 he was the 10th child of Bernice and Claude Wigginton and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Dorothy Jean Wigginton, three children; Mike Wigginton (Becky), Michele Conway (Dan), Mark Wigginton (Terry), seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Wilbur was born and raised in the Columbus area where he lived his entire life other than one elementary school year that he lived in Circleville, Ohio with his oldest sister and her family. Family was of utmost importance to him. When he and his siblings, as grown-ups, were separated geographically by marriages and jobs, they reunited in the summers throughout his adult life. As the extended family grew, Wilbur started organizing family reunion weekends that were at one time attended by 80 family members.
Wilbur worked at a number of different jobs before working for more than 20 years at Suburban Motor Freight, at first loading freight and later working in management until the company went out of business. He started a new career at age 55 and worked at George J. Igel & Co. and Capitol City Crane until he retired in 1996.
For many years following retirement, Wilbur met for breakfast weekly with the ROMEOs (Retired Old Men Eating Out), a group that he organized. He also prepped orders every Friday for pickup at his church's food pantry. He served as a trustee at the church and was an active member of the men's group.
Throughout his life, Wilbur undertook many household projects and was accomplished at DIY projects. He finished the basement, built a screened-in porch, a sunroom, and a two-car garage at his home. He also made furniture, lamps, and keepsake boxes.
An afternoon playing golf or captaining his pontoon boat around Buckeye Lake with friends and family were favorite pastimes. He was a regular at auto auctions buying and selling used cars. He was especially skilled at finding used cars for people, and helping fix them up. Wilbur was always willing to help a friend-and he had many-young and old.
One niece commented, Uncle Wilbur "was a constant source of cheer as he was gifted in finding humor in all of life's circumstances. He was so loved." A granddaughter said, "I feel like it's the end of an era with Grandpas passing. You felt loved from the minute you entered the house until the time that you left."
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Helping Hands hhmedicalequipment.org, a medical equipment ministry of Peace United Methodist Church Pickerington, Ohio, that lends medical equipment to anyone who needs it.
A visitation for Wilbur will be held Thursday, February 13, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Schoedinger East, 5360 E Livingston Avenue, Columbus, OH 43232, followed by a Remembrance service at 12:00 PM.
