William F. Byrd

William F. Byrd, 88, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2016 surrounded by loved ones. He was born April 11, 1927 in Columbus, OH. He was a proud sailor in the U.S. Navy serving during WWII aboard the U.S.S. John Land. He then worked and retired from Columbus and Southern Ohio Electric Company. Bill was a member of Elks Lodge #37 and American Legion Post #164. He is preceded in death by his parents Jack (Willis) and Marguerite (Embelton) Byrd, his loving wife Juanita (Johnson) Byrd, daughter Dianne (Byrd) McGee, brother John Byrd and sister Virginia Neubig. Bill is survived by his son Ray (Tammy Shanyfelt) Byrd, grandchildren Kelly (Jamie) Gooch, Eric Byrd and Amy (James) Fox and their mother Vickie Byrd, great grandchildren Kaitlynn Martin, Erin Hartsough, Bradley, Brandon and Brittany Gooch and many nieces and nephews including special niece Cheryl Hill. Family will receive friends Sunday, January 31, 2016 from 2-5 PM at SCHOEDINGER GROVE CITY CHAPEL, 3920 Broadway where a funeral service will be held Monday, February 1, 2016 at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Grove City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or Mount Carmel Palliative Care.
