It is with heavy and loving hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Joseph Cardinuto on January 9, 2026, after a brief battle with cancer. Joe passed surrounded by the family he loved so deeply.
Joe was born on January 23, 1951, in New York City to James and Josephine Cardinuto. He grew up in New York City and the Bronx alongside his brothers and sisters, whom he adored. On November 30, 2002, Joe married the love of his life, Kathy, and together they shared many cherished years. Through this marriage, he also gained two stepdaughters, Jean and Lori, whom he loved and considered his own daughters.
Joe dedicated 38 years of his life to working at Con Edison, a career he was proud of and through which he formed many lifelong friendships.
Joe truly enjoyed life’s simple pleasures and had many interests. He loved spending time with his best friend and brother-in-law, Pete, especially during their many years of fishing together. Music was always close to Joe’s heart; he especially loved Frank Sinatra, enjoyed singing along and karaoke, played the drums and once was in a band, a time he loved to reminisce about. He also enjoyed spending time with friends at the Post in the Bronx, the VFW in Media, and Booth’s Corner.
Joe was a devoted collector who saved every card he was ever sent and treasured memorabilia ranging from fishing lures and vinyl records to Frank Sinatra and New York Yankees keepsakes. He also loved movies, particularly westerns, and was a lifelong Yankees fan.
Joe’s warm smile and gentle, kind, and loving nature made everyone feel at ease. There wasn’t a person he couldn’t talk to. He loved sharing stories, reminiscing about old times, and connecting with everyone he met. To know Joe was truly to love him.
Above all else, Joe’s greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren, Angelo, Gabriel, and Harper, who meant the world to him.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Kathy; his siblings, Anthony (Diane), Emily, Rosemary (Peter), and Jerry (Donna); daughters Jean and Lori; son-in-law Anthony; his beloved grandchildren, Angelo, Gabriel, and Harper; and many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Jimmy, sister Carole, and nephews Jimmy and Christopher.
A visitation and Catholic service will be held on January 17th from 2:00–5:00 p.m. at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home in Congers, New York.
For our local Pennsylvania friends and family unable to attend the services, we invite you to gather with us to remember and celebrate Joe’s life with stories, memories and laughter on what would be Joe's 75th birthday at the VFW in Media, PA on January 23rd from 4-6 p.m
In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe’s memory may be made to Life Rolls On, a foundation that inspires infinite possibilities beyond disability through adaptive surfing and other events; a cause close to Joe’s heart that he proudly supported and attended for 15 years. Liferollson.org
