Mary McDine

Mary I. McDine (nee Barry), born February 20, 1936 of Sun City Hilton Head previously of Congers, Valley Cottage and Yonkers, NY passed away on January 6, 2014. She grew up in the Vinegar Hill section of Manhattan, NY. She was predeceased by her parents William and Nora (Keane) Barry from County Cork, Ireland; her sisters Margaret and Nora and brother John Barry.Mary attended schools in Manhattan- Annunciation Girls School, St. Catherine's Academy and Thorpe Secretarial. Mary worked for General Motors. Mary met and married her favorite basketball player Dick McDine on January 31, 1959 in Annunciation Church in NYC. They moved to Valley Cottage and then to Congers. She was an active member of St. Paul's Church and School, the Mother Guild, altar and rosary and the intramural program. She was a crossing guard for St. Paul's School for 14 years. She retired from Clarkstown Transportation. After retiring she moved to Sun City Hilton in November 2000. Mary enjoyed bowling, bocci and swimming and the Sun City sunshine.Mary is survived by her husband, Dick of 54 years and her six children: two daughters Doreen (Larry) Otsuka, and Mary Kay (Michael) Gatto; four sons, Brian (Mariza), Thomas (Donna), Dennis (Suzett), and Richard Jr. (Cathy). She is also survived by brothers, Bill Barry of TN and Dermott Barry of CA, as well as her pride and joy; her 11 grandchildren, Larry Thomas & Michael Otsuka, Tyler McDine, Nicole & Hayley McDine, Liam McDine, Gabriella & Matthew Gatto, Jacqueline, Casey & Richard III McDine and many nieces and nephews.Family will receive visitors on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Service, Congers, NY. A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Friday at 11am at St. Pauls Church, Congers. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mary's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , Memphis, TN.
