William F. Godel (Binky) of Congers, NY passed away on 11/19/2020. He was born in the Bronx on 8/11/1949 to Sadie and Fredrick Godel and was one of six children. Sometime in 1966, Carmela Jacovino walked into a local butcher shop one day and saw William working behind the counter. She thought her daughter would find him cute, so she had him drop meat too her house and that’s when Carmela introduced him to Rose. They began dating in the Summer of 1968 and became husband and wife in June of 1971 and had two beautiful children, Dawn and Jennifer.
Dawn would go on to bless William with two grandchildren, Alexander and Cassandra. He loved his grandchildren so much that when the opportunity arose to co-own a home with his daughter Dawn and son-in-law Jason, he jumped at the opportunity because it meant he would see them every day. Alex remembers the time Grandpa would practice baseball with him, help him with gardening, and watching him play video games. Cassie also loved playing dominoes with him, hearing his fun stories and watching movies with him. She would state, “He really knew how to be a best friend”.
He spent his career as a butcher boy, delivering milk, and eventually began a career at the NY Times as a paper handler, conditioning paper for presses so the paper could be printed each morning.
He loved Halloween and Horror movies. One of his first dates with Rose was taking her to see “Night of the Living Dead”. He would put out decorations in the hallway and front porch of his apartment complex and dressed up to scare the neighbor’s kids every Halloween.
The food he would love to make the most was his legendary meatballs. Ask anyone who had his meatballs and they would tell you they were one of a kind. People who tried them once still talk about how great they were many years later.
Friends and neighbors remember him as a kind, open-hearted person with a radiant smile and enthusiastic voice.
He was survived by his wife Rose, daughters Dawn and Jennifer, son-in-law Jason, and grandchildren Alexander and Cassandra. He is also survived by his sisters Patricia and her husband Arthur, Jane and her husband Steven, and his brother Fred and his wife Christine and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, brother Gary, and sister Joyce Mazzarella and her husband Joe Mazzarella, brother-in-law Phil Jacovino Jr. and mother and father-in-law Carmela and Phil Jacovino
In lieu of flowers, donation to the United Hospice of Rockland or the Immaculate Conception Church in Norwood, NJ would be appreciated.
