Elizabeth Della (Smith) Smithson, 100, of Connersville died Sunday, September 4, 2022 at Carolton Manor in Connersville. Elizabeth was born March 7, 1922 to William and Mattie (Fisher) Smith in Burlington Kentucky. The Smith Family moved to Connersville when Elizabeth was four years old. The Smith Family was blessed with six children: Richard, Frank, Raymond, Delores, Nanny, and Elizabeth. In her teen years, Elizabeth started her career working for Mayor Glen Henderson, Dr. Mountain, The Switzer Family, and The Branson Family, just to name a few. She would serve at many events at Mr. and Mrs. Bunzendahl, the owners of Hoffman Dry Cleaners and at Dr. and Mrs. Shelton. Elizabeth volunteered in the hospital gift shop for several years until she started volunteering at the Fayette Senior Center. She started by riding the bus and collecting money from the patrons, and later by moving into the office. Elizabeth has been a member of St. Johns Mission, the Phillipi church, and lastly ending at Mt. Zion. In June 1946, Elizabeth married Archie Smithson until 1968 when Archie passed. The marriage was blessed with eight children; Lavonna, Leonard (Lisa), Linda (Thurmen), LeNora, LuCinda, Lorna, Lorraine (Lamont), and Louisa. She has a huge extend family consisting of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and twice great-grandchildren. Elizabeth received The Volunteer of the Year Award from the NAACP for her continued love and serving her community. Elizabeth lived on her own until age eighty- nine, when she decided to move to Carolton Manner where she lived until her death. A graveside service will be conducted at 12:00p.m., on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at Dale Cemetery in Connersville, with Pastor Alex Fahie officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in Elizabeth’s honor.
