Former Connersville resident, William L. Hinners, 82, died Thursday, October 18, 2018, in San Marcos, California.
Bill was born at his paternal grandparent’s residence in Connersville, July 10, 1936, the eldest of three children of Wilbur L. and Sylvia Mae Cooney Hinners. He was a 1954 graduate of Connersville High School and was married to the former Geneva Gabbard on March 10, 1956. Bill’s love of cars led him to a long career with Chevrolet, Oldsmobile and as an accomplished technician with Mercedes Benz following training at the factory in Stuttgart, Germany. He was recognized by Mercedes Benz for excellence and outstanding performance. Bill was a former member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Connersville and the Connersville Country Club where he had two documented holes-in-one. He loved to travel, including camping and hiking with his family in Joshua Tree, Sequoia, Yosemite and Yellowstone National Park where he celebrated his 75th birthday. Another fond memory was climbing a huge rock formation in Joshua Tree with his family, blankets and wine to witness the full moon rise.
In addition to his wife of 62 years, Bill is survived by his children: Kimberly Clifton of Honolulu, Hawaii; Kenneth Hinners and his wife, Joji of Wenatchee, Washington; Julia Parks, Portland, Oregon; grandchildren: Erin, Christy, Byron, Brent, Sarah, Amanda and Janelle; sixteen great-grandchildren; his sister: Mary Helen Hankins and her husband, Dick of Connersville; a niece, four nephews and many friends. Bill was extremely proud of all of his family and their accomplishments.
