William R. “Bill” Morgan Sr., 87, of Connersville, died Monday morning, May 27, 2019, at Indiana University Health Methodist in Indianapolis. Bill was born January 25, 1932 in Fayette County to Harry and Allah Garwood Morgan. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1950 and served aboard the USS Toledo during the Korean War. Bill’s military decorations included the Korean Service Medal with four stars, China Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. Bill was employed as a hi-low driver and press operator at Stant Manufacturing for 35 years. He enjoyed fishing, the Indianapolis Colts, Nascar and loved spending time with his grandchildren and his family. Bill was a proud lifetime member of the AMVETS, Eagles, American Legion, VFW and 40 et 8. Bill is survived by his daughter: Ramona D. Morgan of Connersville; his son: William “Billy” Morgan Jr. and his wife, Leslie of Greenwood; his brother: Joe Morgan and his wife, Marilyn of Columbia; his grandchildren: Christopher Lee Lutz of Connersville, Craig S. Morgan of Greenwood, Alexis N. Liechty and her husband,Tristan of Indianapolis, Ryan P. Morgan, Zachary M. Morgan, and Megan E. Morgan, all of Greenwood; his great-grandchildren: Christopher Charles Lutz, Danielle Louise Lutz, Joshua Lutz; nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife: the former Dorothy Niemeth; his grandson: Matthew Steven Morgan; his brothers: Wayne, Pluke and George Morgan; his sisters: Jeannette Meaders, Catherine Lykins, and Mildred Morgan; Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2019 at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville. Military graveside honors conducted by the Fayette County Veterans Council will follow. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 5 p.m. Friday until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made at the funeral home to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517.
