Green was born August 8th 1928, in Lumber City, GA to Green Walker. Sr. and Ella Walker. In his youth, he fathered his oldest daughter, Eloise Walker Greene, in 1946 and they remained close over the years. Green served in the U.S. Army, from 1947 until 1981, and fought on the front lines in both the Vietnam and Korean War. In 1968, he was stationed in Germany, remaining there until 1976.
During his duty in Germany he befriended a seamstress named Augusta Loew. His first encounter with her was to sew on a patch on his uniform. The next encounter was to sew on another patch, followed by another and another. After running out of patches, he finally got up enough nerve to ask Augusta on a real date. In the spring of 1976 Green Walker Jr, Augusta Loew and her son, Norbert Loew, relocated to Atlanta. Augusta’s eldest son, Gundolf Loew continued to reside in Germany.
On November 11, 1977 they were married by Pastor Kurt Duncan in Green’s step mothers home in Lumber City, GA and would have celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary this coming November.
Green Walker retired from the Army in 1981 and continued to work as a civilian for AAFES for 20 years once again retiring for a second time.
After six months of retirement he was inspired by his son, Norbert, to attend college. He attended Saint Leo College and obtained an Associated Degree and later a Bachelors in Criminal Justice.
During Green’s retirement years he always took the road less traveled. He loved to take day trips with his beloved Schatz, a special nickname for Augusta.
He is very well known to drive from Atlanta to Warner Robbins for a carton of eggs, or a box of crackers or to just get a tank of gas. They frequently visited the Burger King in Warner Robbins to enjoy or sometimes share a 99 cent burger and an ice cream.
Green loved to drive! He loved to drive fast , Frequently collecting speeding tickets even as late a few weeks ago.
He is survived by his wife, Augusta; sons, Norbert & Gundolf and daughter, Eloise; granddaughter, Madison; grandson,George Green; great-granddaughters, Cincine, Ashanti and Alika Greene; Cousin, Pam; nephew, Russell and a host of other family and friends.
