Norbert was born June 6, 1951, in the small village of Sacate, Arizona, to Jose Juan Harvey and Barbra Thomas Harvey. He was the youngest of six siblings.
He attended St. Peter’s Indian Mission School and later graduated from St. John’s Indian High School. A dedicated and hardworking man, Norbert committed over 40 years of his life to Pima Value Inc. Outside of work, he was known for his impressive collection of chicken scratch music and southern rock, as well as his talent for craftsmanship and building.
Norbert was a soft-spoken and gentle soul, blessed with a sharp wit and a deep compassion for animals. Affectionately known as “St. Francis” by those who knew him, he cared for wild horses during Arizona’s scorching summers, often leaving water behind his home. Animals, wild and tame, were drawn to his quiet kindness and trusted him deeply.
He was preceded in death by his siblings: Veronica James of Sacaton, AZ; Carmelita Juan of Sacate, AZ; Esther Shelde of Komatke, AZ; Arthur Harvey of Sweetwater, AZ; and Bernadette Harvey of Sacate, AZ.
Norbert is survived by his beloved 12-year-old cat, Peng Hawthorne, and his devoted nieces, Joyce Lewis and Kathleen Harvey.
